I have over 40 years’ experience as a civil litigator and criminal lawyer. During that time, I have been a partner and an associate in some of the nation’s best known law firms. I also managed a boutique Washington D.C. firm and was co-managing partner of the D.C. office of a midwestern law firm.
I have tried dozens of jury and nonjury cases to verdict, have argued appeals in federal and state courts, and have authored briefs before the United States Supreme Court and numerous state and federal appellate courts. My clients have included nationally known companies and individuals in cases that were on front pages across the United States.
I have had a varied and successful career, representing individuals and companies, including one of the largest corporations in the United States. I have represented clients in federal and state criminal investigations and prosecutions, commercial lawsuits, telecommunications-related suits and proceedings, patent infringement cases, shareholder suits, antitrust lawsuits and investigations, deceptive practice claims, large-scale fraud claims, tax claims, ERISA litigation, securities cases, discrimination claims, and federal and state enforcement investigations, lawsuits and administrative actions involving a wide-variety of substantive areas.
I have also prosecuted criminal and civil claims. As an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, I handled hundreds of criminal prosecutions. In private practice, I represented a large, nationwide lender in suits against borrowers involved in complex, money laundering and fraudulent schemes. In a case brought on behalf of a federal agency, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, I obtained summary judgment against guarantors of a loan. I have represented plaintiffs in civil rights actions, lawsuits against insurance companies for coverage and bad faith, partnership disputes, actions for theft of intellectual property, fraud, breach of contract, and tax refund claims.
For the past 19 years, I have been an instructor for the D.C. Bar course on pretrial motion practice. I have been invited to lecture on discovery and pretrial issues by the Office of the D.C. Corporation Counsel (now Attorney General), a Fortune Fifty corporation and a U.S. government agency. I was an instructor for the evening program of The George Washington University School of Law.
